For 65 years Shadowbrook has been a favorite setting for exquisite weddings because of its romantic ambiance and magnificent setting on the banks of the Soquel Creek, in the delightful village of Capitola-by-the-Sea. Recognized for being the “Most Romantic Restaurant” in Northern California by the readers of San Francisco Focus, Shadowbrook will make your wedding day even more memorable.

More than just a beautiful setting, Shadowbrook’s interior has an old world charm that will put you and your guests at ease. Their exceptional cuisine prepared by Executive Chef Anthony Kresge, will have your guests amazed talking about their meal for years to come. Their extensive beverage selection allows you to tailor your special day to reflect your personal style. Their award-winning service, provided by experienced professionals, will ensure that your wedding day is carefree and elegant.

I had the pleasure of doing a little interview with Allyson Fockler Special Events Coordinator:

-What in your opinion makes Shadowbrook a special place to get married?
Shadowbrook is a magical place that holds a special place in peoples hearts. So many of the couples that get married here have a tie to the restaurant; parents first date, their first date, they were engaged here, the list goes on! Its iconic to the county with many of its guests returning year after year. I love hearing guests stories of their first memories of coming here. They always remember the cable car, the luscious landscape, fine cuisine and its ambiance.

-Whats the biggest wedding you’ve ever coordinated at Shadowbrook?
The biggest wedding I have done so far at Shadowbrook was for 130 guests! I have a great team that I work with and they are truly what drives the event to success.
-What’s your favorite part of the wedding coordinating process?
Oh my gosh I love everything so its hard to pick one thing! I have done over 150 weddings in the 4 years I have been at Shadowbrook and there is nothing like seeing the Husband-to-be see his Bride walking down the isle. I get choked up every time.  Its a reminder of why I love this industry. Its an amazing feeling knowing that you are going to be a part of their lives and have helped them achieve success on one of the greatest day of their lives.

-How many rooms does Shadowbrook have?  And how many levels?
We have 7 different dining rooms on 4 levels! Its a huge venue from that aspect. The Owner’s Private Reserve is our smallest dining room which I use for small weddings or elopements. The next is the Redwood Room that holds up to 26 guests and has its own private patio that over looks the Chefs herb garden. The Fireside Room, Main Dining Room and Garden Room are on the main level and are mainly used for our dinner guests. The Wine Cellar sits below this level and can hold up to 46 guests. This room also has a gorgeous brick fireplace and tapestry that bring out the “old world charm” of Shadowbrook. Our most requested room is the Greenhouse. This room is our lowest level and sits right next to the Soquel Creek. Its glass ceiling and walls makes you feel like you are really dining outdoors!

-What’s your favorite room or level?
My parents had their rehearsal dinner in our Garden room in 1975 so it holds a special place in my families heart! This room is very unique since it has a large tree growing through the middle of it! But my absolute favorite room is the Redwood Room. One of the walls is covered with pictures of Shadowbrook’s history which is so fun to look at how far this place has come in the last 66 years! The patio adjoining this room is just beautiful with Wisteria blooming and covering the base of the  outdoor heaters. Its serene and gorgeous!

-Do you have any cool stories you’d like to share?
Every wedding we do here has some cool element to it but one wedding that sticks out in my mind was a musician who brought in his vintage guitar collection. He hung the guitars on their straps from the ceiling in the Greenhouse to create this Rock n’ Roll feel to the wedding. They also had hand-made mini versions of all of the guitars on their tables as centerpieces mixed with candy and flowers – truly unique! The bride wore a white dress with a custom made leather and lace long jacket and the groom had a black and red leather jacket to match! Their escort cards looked like concert tickets in plastic holders so the guests could wear them around their necks. It was really well thought out and one of my coolest weddings by far!
