SANTA CRUZ — Fans of Shakespeare Santa Cruz have their theater company back. They’ll just have to learn to refer to it differently.
The spinoff from the well-known theater company announced Tuesday that the company’s name is now inverted from the previous name: Shakespeare Santa Cruz is now Santa Cruz Shakespeare.
The new entity, formerly known as Shakespeare Play On, also announced its 2014 season, which will begin July 1, with two Shakespeare plays, “The Merry Wives of Windsor” and “As You Like It.” Season tickets for the new season are on sale now. Single tickets go on sale April 1.
What Santa Cruz Shakespeare did not announce Tuesday was exactly where these new plays will be staged. The company is hoping to reinhabit its longtime space in the Stanley Sinsheimer Festival Glen on the campus of UC Santa Cruz, but negotiations with the university are ongoing in the use of the Glen.
