SANTA CRUZ — Beer drinkers know how to celebrate every season, and autumn’s no exception.
As the temperatures drop, the brews get deeper in color and taste — a perfect way to stay warm and accompany richer meals.
“The darker, sweeter beers start to get more appealing once the weather gets colder and the leaves start to turn red and gold,” said Winslow Sawyer, a brewer at Boulder Creek Brewery.
In celebration of the season, Boulder Creek Brewery’s cooking up a pumpkin saison expected to hit the taps in the next few weeks. While the saison, a Belgian farmhouse beer, was originally brewed in the autumn or winter for farmworkers, it’s rarely paired with pumpkin, Sawyer said.
